And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Matthew 17:20
Even a tiny mustard seed of faith can move mountains.
In Matthew 17:20, Jesus tells his disciples that their lack of faith prevented them from driving out a demon. But He then encourages them, saying, “If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”
The mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds, but it has the potential to grow into a large plant. Jesus is using this illustration to teach us that even a small amount of faith can accomplish great things.
How can we increase our faith?
The Bible tells us that faith comes from hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17). So, by reading the Bible and spending time in prayer, we can grow our faith. We can also strengthen our faith by trusting in God’s promises and seeing how He has worked in our lives and the lives of others.
What mountains do you need to move? Perhaps there is a burden you are carrying, a relationship you need to heal, or a fear you need to overcome. With faith in God, you can move those mountains. Don’t be discouraged by the size of your problems. Remember, even the smallest seed has the potential for great growth.
